Effective Treatment

There are effective treatments for hepatitis C. Drug therapy can clear the virus in more than half of those treated. The two primary drugs are Pegylated Interferon and Ribavirin. If you are eligible for treatment, you would usually receive dual therapy, with Pegylated Interferon by weekly injection and oral Ribaviron daily.
Interferon is a protein that the body produces naturally. Interferon suppresses cell division, inhibits vascular growth, and is important in the body's response to infection, particularly viral infections.
Interferon is also an immune stimulant. Although the mechanism of interferon action in treating hepatitis C is not completely known, it is likely that it's antiviral and immune stimulatory properties are important.
